UPS - Uninterruptible Power Supply

This device supplies clean power to and acts as a safety net for the server in case of a power failure. It can typically supply power to the server and other necessary peripheral devices like network equipment and modems for 5 to 30 minutes. During installation, the UPS is set up to communicate with the server via a cable. If power does not return, it signals the server to shut down gracefully - by stopping all running processes normally and closing all data files. This ensures that everything is intact when the power returns.

Sizing Information

The size of the UPS depends on the size of the server. Larger servers draw more power and need a UPS with a higher capacity battery. The proper UPS will be recommended once the server is chosen.
